My goal was to be on the road by 4am. We were only 9 minutes late which is not to darn bad. The kids and I slept off and on the first part of the trip so it went by pretty fast for us. Jake on the other hand was pounding Red Bulls to help keep him awake. Here's the first leg of our journey.
We stopped for breakfast in Louisiana and to change the kids clothes. They were still in their PJ's. After a quick stop at McDonald's, we were back on the road. I drove for a while, so Jake could sleep.
We stopped off for picnic lunch we had packed at a local park in some small town in Mississippi. We let the kids run around for a while. It was HOT! But it was a good break from the car and it kind of wore them out. Then it was time to hit the road again.
Alabama was probably the kids favorite state on the trip. We got to drive through a big tunnel like "Thomas". See a HUGE battleship and old airplanes. We also got to see a cruise ship up close and the kids loved the "BIG boat".
We finally made it to Florida, and we could see the light at the end of the tunnel. We stopped off in Pensacola for a snack, gas, and bathroom break and a change of clothes for the kids. We were told from there it would be an hour and a half. Factor in crazy ridiculous traffic, a stop sign every 100 yards and the fact we were only five miles away from Panama City, it ended up taking almost three hours. But we survived! We even started planning where we want to go next year.
